But if you put the rule or razorblade between the centers and bring them together the tilt will show the alignment of the centers. It also shows how well they are aligned vertically as well as horozontally.
Very nice and informitive videos
Thanks for all the great work making them!
I did not know this i guess i was wrong.
Thanks for your interest–more to come.
I have a used a thin bladed machinist ruler. Actually, this procedure checks to see if the tool bit is set on center (right height ). Not to be confused with tailstock center alignment.
Thank you for taking the time to create these videos – I just bought an older 10″ Atlas longbed from another American gentleman (I live in Italy – hard to get parts for these things here) and your videos are a tremendous help in getting me started and set up. Thanks again!!
Have you tried a razor blade between centers i haved used this method it works well .
Thanks for your enthusiastic interest. I have many more planned.
I had thought you mite like the idea it sparked for me. Could you use a carpenters Laser level on an addjusted base, I think they even now have a reasonably priced one at the local hard ware store I bet you could use that & an old snapon mettered depth scale .Make a laser calibration scale, you could even watch for harmonic run out.All home built.
brilliant series.
I’ve never bothered to comment on youtube but I just had to take a moment out in this case. If you made a video a day it still wouldn’t be enough for me.
very refreshing; great work!
If I can put in a suggestion — it would be great to see some more of your bridgeport in action. Maybe a rotary table?
Thanks again.
very interesting so far.
i’ve heard people talk about losing alignment in the tail stock like it is the end of the world. doesn’t seem to black magic or anything to get it fixed so thanks for showing us.
looking forward to part 2!
